Blessed silence

The never-ending blackness
Flashes of red light
The pounding in my head
The throbbing in my chest
The symphony of voices
The screaming, the laments
The charged air thrumming around me
A negative vortex of emotions constantly pulling me down

Bound in chains to an early grave
Wicked voices chanting one phrase, over and over and over and over
The incessant knocking
Sharp jabs that steal soul fragments
Loosing the will to fight against the pain
Bloody tears shining black
The screaming anguish that momentarily silences the chorus

“Just die!”
Eyes that stare out of the darkness
Judgmental voices render one verdict
“Just die!”
A black canvas painted with red letters
Written in every language, unreadable but understood
“Just die!”

A faint memory of smiling faces
An up surging of hope
A thunderous voice that drowns the light
“Just die!”
Cloth ripped from unseeing eyes
A circle of hooded figures
“Just die!”
Metal chains blocking the door

Bloody fists raised in futile arrogance
Waxen skin wishing for sun
One word muttered with utter conviction
“No.”
A rain of arrows
The cord of strength shatters
An avalanche of cheers

Crimson light washes away
Silence follows
A shaking figure stands
The coliseum falls to the ground
Unsteadily I sway on my feet
“I said, no.”
